Get Your Primer On

We all tend to use a little more makeup once the summer months come to an end. Here are some great primer tricks to master this fall.

1. There are great benefits to using a tinted formula. Primers with a pink tint to them,  add a nice glow. Lilac shades help brighten sallow or yellowish skin. To help neutralize redness go for a green shade. Just keep in mind that less is more. A drop about the size of a raisin is plenty, any more than that will pull under your foundation.

Try Revlon’s Photoready Color Correcting Primer or Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Correcting Primer in Green.

2. Do not forget about your eyes. Priming around your eyes counteracts redness, helps prevent crows feet, & prevents makeup from smudging or absorbing oils. It is a MUST.

3. Do not go overboard on the acne. Remember that too much can actually make it worse. Look for primers that have anti-acne ingredients in them so that you can skip the spot treatment.

Pick up Smashbox Photo Finish More than Primer Blemish Control.

4. Give your lashes some life. We all love the look of long, thick lashes. Use a primer before applying your regular mascara to help create that look. Limit your coats of mascara to only 2, anything more than that will create clumping.

Try Lancome Cils Booster XL or Tarte Multipleye Lash Primer.

5. If you are a huge fan of lipstick, you definitely want to prime your lips. This will prevent lipstick from settling into the cracks of your lips or flaking off.

E.L.F. Lip Primer & Plumper will get the job done (you can also just use regular face primer!)

6. Always finish with a  translucent powder. This will help set your makeup for the day.

8 Nail Colors for Fall

You cannot be 100% ready for fall without the right color nail polish!

Here are a few trendy colors to pick up.

1. Buttery Caramel: This color is great for medium to dark skin tones. Pick up O.P.I. Nail Lacquer in A-Piers to be Tan

2. Army Green: Perfect color for fall. The brown undertones make it A-OK for the office. Try Prabal Gurung for Sally Hansen in London Green.

3. Moonlit Blue: Bright…but not too bright. Snap Revlon Nail Enamel in Urban.

4. Blackened Cherry: You cannot go wrong with a deep red and black mixed together. I suggest Chanel Nail Polish in Rouge Noir.

5. Bloody Orange: This might be among my top favorites for fall. This color puts a little twist on the ever so popular coral we have been seeing all summer. Pick up Dior Vernis Trafalgar to get this look.

6. Electric Velvet: This color is bright and deep. Purple is going to be all over this fall. Try CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss in Vio-Last.

7. Iridescent Maple: This is a gray with a kick to it. There is a tint of olive in it making it fun and perfect for fall. Essie In For the Twill is the one to try for this look.

8. Dusty Rose: This might be my favorite for fall. It is the new nude with a hint of pink in it! There are two brands you can try: 1. Essie in Ladylike or L’Oreal Colour Riche Nail In Marvelous.

Editing Your Closet Like A Pro

I know we are well into spring with it being the middle of May (already?!), but I am sure some of you are still working on cleaning out your closets for spring and summer.

Use these guidelines to ensure you are well prepared!

  • Use the same type of hanger & hang every piece in the same direction to create a nice flow, making it easier to get dressed!
  • Arrange your clothes by detail: color, sleeve length, style, etc.

  • Make your jewelry visible and easily accessible for a stylish and hassle free wardrobe!

  • Display your favorite pieces
  • Bring pieces you do not wear too often front and center (or get rid of it – why keep it if you aren’t going to wear it?)

  • Hang your pants & denim for easy access – this allows you to see what you are working with and not forget about a perfect pair of pants you found months ago!

  • Have fun with your shoes! Use clear containers to show them off & keep them in good condition or if you can, put them out for show.
  • Keep the shape of your boots by hanging them.

  • If it is not in season…pack it up! This will create more space in your closet allowing you to remain organized…and also allows for more space for new must haves 😉

  • Go with the 2 year rule – if you have not worn it for 2 years, it is time to say goodbye.
  • Make a pile of items you no longer want and plan to donate them ASAP.
